Our cement hippo is fifty years old. She was an iconic presence in Dr. Cailles’ hometown in Indiana, and Dr. Cailles grew up with her. On a visit home with her husband and daughter, Dr. Cailles mentioned how she wished her daughter could have the opportunity to also grow up with the hippo.
